Bigger is not necessarily better. If your goal is muscle size I
will be happy to work with you on achieving that. However if your goal
is overall health and fitness our workouts will be decidedly different.
While I respect those looking for muscular development, my choice
personally is to focus on long term health which means my muscular size
will never be huge!
Of course the fastest way to build muscles is with steroids.
That is the one thing I will not assist a client with, both because it
is illegal (for those with medical conditions it may be legal to use
steroids, but still it is not legal for me to aid in their use!) and
because steroids, even in controlled dosage, do great damage to the body
and will negatively impact the lifespan of a healthy person.
For muscular development we will focus on weights: using iron
to push the muscles into growth at a pace that will challenge but not
damage your body. A variety of exercises will be used to make sure the
muscle is solid and strong. We all know what it looks like to see a guy
with hulking huge arms and toothpick legs unbalanced development. But
there are a lot less obvious factors that are similar. Guys whose
workout is repetitive are building their muscles in only one direction
so while they may be happy with their size they don't realize how weak
that muscle really is if stressed in other directions so they are at
great risk for injury.
For overall body strength we will balance muscle work with
aerobic activity. Giving a balance of developing the muscles and
developing the body's endurance. Not only is this best for overall
health, it is generally the easiest type of program to maintain because
the variety keeps it more interesting and the time between doing the
same exercises makes it feel less repetitive.
What is your desired focus? Together we can build a program to
suit your goals.
